Significance of Lakshmi Pooja

Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, good fortune, light and beauty. In Hindu rituals, it is said that the goddess Lakshmi is the most beautiful and adorable goddess of all and she is worshipped all around India on Diwali evening because of her golden complexions. Goddess Lakshmi is either sitting or standing on a lotus holding a lotus in her hand. Goddess Lakshmi is the wife of Lord Vishnu and she signifies herself as the beauty, wealth and prosperity. The word Lakshmi is derived from a Sanskrit word which means goal. Goddess Lakshmi is generally worshipped for achieving success. It is said she doesn’t stays longer with the person who are lazy, or desire her only for getting wealth.

Lakshmi Pooja is celebrated mainly on third day of Diwali. This third day is entirely devoted to goddess Lakshmi for worshipping her. Most of the people do Lakshmi Pooja in evening of the third day. People very neatly clean their home and decorate it with flowers to welcome goddess Lakshmi in their homes. Lakshmi Pooja is done on Amavasya which is normally considered as inauspicious day, but Diwali day is considered as the auspicious day to do Lakshmi Pooja.

People light diyas in their homes to make the dark night filled with light and glory of diyas. It is believed that lighting diyas removes the darkness from the world, from their home, and from within deep inside. Lakshmi Pooja is performed to bring prosperity and progress in the life of every human. You must clean your house and worshipping place before starting Lakshmi Pooja as Goddess Lakshmi symbolizes neatness.
