Hindu temple that you can visit in Cambodia

Hinduism is the oldest religion of the world and billions of people follow this religion. Before the introduction of any other religion, Hinduism is the only religion which people follow that means in past it is the only religion that has its root not only in India but all over the world.

It has been believed that in past Hinduism spread to east that is in Cambodia as well as, far west to Saudi Arabia. But with the introduction of other religion Hinduism get diminished and currently has its main root only in India and Nepal but still there are many places where you get the influence of Hinduism because of its past history.

Where you can see the influence?

Cambodia is the great example where you get to see many influences of Hinduism. There is some Cambodia temple available that is enough to show that over this place Hinduism has its influence. It is also a fact that Hindu’s biggest temple that is Angkor Vat is not located in India but it is in Cambodia only.

Temples in Cambodia

  • Angkor vat – this is probably the most famous Cambodia temple, and lots of local as well as foreigners are attracted towards this temple to see its beauty. It is a major source of attraction and considered as a very sacred place for Hindu’s. It is also the world’s biggest temple that is currently run and is under control of Buddhist monks. This temple is a work of beauty and art; it is so beautiful and mesmerizing that it was also nominated for the 7 wonders of the world.
  • Banteay Srei – this Cambodia temple is known as a temple of women but this temple is dedicated to lord Shiva who is Hindu (god). Over this place you get to see depict of many Hindu mythological events that includes battle between monkey prince sugreeva and Bali. Fie on khandava forest and more. Wall of this Cambodia temple is made from the red sandstone along with the passage. This temple is not so big even it looks very compact but still it never feels overcrowded.
  • Ta Keo – this Cambodia temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple was built by the Jayavarman V and considered as a state temple of his kingdom at that time. But it is also a fact that despite being the big structure it is not fully completed at that time and till today. This is because during the construction thunderbolt struck the site that abandoned the work of this Cambodia temple. However this place is still consider as a temple and when you visit the temple it is highly recommended that you should climb to top of the temple to get a beautiful scenic view.
  • Pre Rup – this Cambodia temple also known as a mini Angkor vat and was built by the king Rajendravarman, this temple is also devoted to lord Shiva. This temple was made from the gray sandstone and there are many great carvings you get to see over this temple.
  • Phnom Bakheng- this Cambodia temple is also a known as a mountain temple because of its structure. It was built by the king yasovarman at 9th century
