108 divya desams is collectively a group of 108 shrines devoted to a Hindu God, Lord Vishnu. In Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu is considered as the most powerful and much-worshipped God. It was said that Lord Vishnu s devotion was spread throughout the globe in terms of 108 divya desams or temples. A Divya Desam is also sketched in the tamil holy book, Azhvars. In the word Divya Desam, Divya denotes premium and Desam means place, collectively means a premium or holy place.

According to Hindu mythology, there are total 108 divya desams, in which 105 are present in India, one is in Nepal and the rest two are present outside the Globe, means in atmosphere. Name of the last two shrines are Paramapadam and Thirupalkaddal. Paramapadam is also known as Srivaikuntam which is a place where Lord Narayana presides and Thirupalkaddal is the ocean of milk. It was said that these two temples can only be accessed when a devotee leaves this world.

108 divya desams are firstly gathered by Naadha Munigal, one of the great saints and sung as Nalariya Divya Prabandham. Divya Prabandham is an elite way of admiration of all the deities of 108 divya desams including 2 of celestial world. In the Divya Prabandha, 12 Azhavrs are used to revere the divya desams. 4,000 tamil verses are collectively referred to as Divya Prabandha.

Divya desams is the popular name for Sriman Narayanans 108 divya desams. There are total 108 divya desams which are also called 108 Sthalams. Among 108 temples, there are two in Chennai named as Triplicane- Sri Parthasarathy Temple and Thiru Neermalai- Sri Neervanna Perumal Temple.
