As per legends, Lord Brahmma grew proud of his boon of longevity spanning many Yugas.Lord Narayana wanted to teach him a lesson. Sage Romesa performed penance here for the darshan of Lord. Lord appeared before the sage and said that he would live longer than Brahmma whose longevity would be reduced by a year when one hair fell from his body. Brahmma repented his mistake for being proud and arrogant about his longevity that Lord had indirectly taught him a lesson. Lord Narayana graced this place with His Trivikrama form,scaling the whole world with left foot pointing toward the sky.This is where Thirumangai Azhwar had a competetion with Sambandar and sang 10 verses describing the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu. ThiruGnana Sambandar was very happy and rewarded Azhwar his Vel (spear) and an anklet. This incident also showed the the unity of Saivam and Vaishnavam.
