There are several renowned Kethu-navagraha-temples all across India which is pretty popular amongst devotees and here are some brief illustration about some of the famous navagraha temples across several locations:

There is a common belief that this place is as sacred as the Kashi as it is considered to be amongst one of the seven holy places in India. This temple is dedicated to the Mercury and is considered amongst the 51 Shakti peethas that are present over various regions in India.

Special Deity: Mercury:

Of all the kethu-navagraha-temples, this temple is especially dedicated to mercury which is said to be the god for granting boons. Devotees come here and ask the god for good health, education, family bonding and other important matters.

Story behind this temple

There is also a room for the moon who is considered to be the father of mercury. This kethu navagraha temple also has a special shrine which many proclaim to be the place where the kethu worshipped Lord Shiva. It is also claimed that kethu repented for all his sins here and all those were got rid off by the Lord Shiva. That is why you will find the idol of kethu with a head in this temple which is very rare to find in the other kethu-navagraha-temples.

Various mythological books also proclaim that this was the place where the gods and asuras assembled to drink amrita which will make them immortal. But Lord Vishnu disguised himself as Mohini and cheated the asuras by giving them madira (alcohol) instead of the amrita. When one of the asuras got to know about this, he disguised as a god but Surya and Chandrama took not of this and complained about the matter to Lord Vishnu who tore the body of the asura into two pieces while he was trying to drink amritam.

After the impact, the body of the asura broke down but since he had already consumed amrita he survived that attack and from that day onwards the two parts of his body are known as Rahu and kethu. Kethu is that part of asura which remain attached with the head and is heavily worshipped in various kethu-navagraha-temples to save from the cult of lord kethu.

Mohini was keeping a long sppon in her hand and she hit the Asuras head heavily. The Asuras head and the body were separated. The head part goes to Lord kethu.
