The pooja is done on an auspicious day which is celebrated as a festival known as vasant panchmi in various places in India. Clean yourself and wear neat dress
Before resembling in front of goddess, clean yourself and wear white or yellow dress. Make sure that you cleaned house very neatly.

Decorate the place where saraswathis murti is placed
For doing saraswathi pooja, first of all, you need to decorate that place where you are going to put saraswati murti. For that you need to make rangoli with colors or flowers and also a design of fish as it is said to be auspicious. Then, take a stool with an average or low height; make sure that it is made up of wood only. Then cover that stool with yellow cloth and put goddess sraswatis murti, make sure that her face is facing towed the east direction. The face of idol will be covered until priest starts his mantras.

Make a Prasad or food for goddess saraswati
After everything, offer food that is made with cleanliness. You have to offer five kinds of fruits, in which banana and coconut should be included. Other than that you can offer berries, tapioca, etc. you can also offer sweets that are made up of jiggery, puffed rice and yogurt.
