According to Hindu mythology, lord Vishnu is a one of the powerful deities along Brahma and Shiva. They are also called as Trinity or Trimurti in Hindu religion. Lord Vishnu is the god of protection and preservation of mankind. According to holy books, lord Vishnu or narayana protects his devotees from evil spirits and evil energies that can harm them. A correct procedure (vidhi) for doing Vishnu pooja

Prayer ( dhayanam)
The first thing that you should do is chanting mantra. Usually, you can choose your mantra but the most powerful and easy mantra is OM VISHNAVE NAMAH.
Invocation of god ( Avahana)
Invoking god to come to your place where are you worshipping him for making your wish true. This is second step that is important to do at the time of Vishnu pooja.
Offering seat ( asana)
According to Hindu’s beliefs, they offer seat to lord Vishnu on decorated with yellow cotton sheets spread on the table.
Feet washing (padaya)
After offering a seat, you have to wash his feet with water, rosewater, and gangajal. Gangajal is one of the purest water according to Hindu mythology that is used in every festival to spread purity and calm.
Offering flowers ,incense ( dhoop) and lighting oil lamp ( deep)
After that you offer new clothes for wearing and offer flowers for him. You have to light up a candle or deep which contains ghee in it.
